The City of Belleville is reminding drivers and pedestrians to be aware and attentive as the school year gets underway.

Tips include slowing down, especially in areas near schools, watching for crossing guards and ensuring you stop a safe distance from crossings.

Officials also say to keep an eye out for school buses and always stop when its lights are flashing and the stop sign is extended.

Meanwhile, the OPP is asking parents and guardians to do their part and continue safety discussions with their kids when travelling to and from school.
