As we approach another weekend of summer fun in Quinte, I am going to ask you to do something for me to help me get through the next two months.
For the past four days, I have been talking about a series of traffic fatalities on roadways in our region, and I would like to not have to do that anymore.
It began on Tuesday morning, when a 30-year-old driver from Belleville was ejected from their vehicle and died at the site of a crash on Highway 37 near Phillpston Road.
Late Wednesday night, a 41-year-old man from Foxboro dies in a crash on Rapids Road near Tweed.
There was also a fatal crash on the 401 near Kingston earlier that same evening, where a vehicle crashed into the median and a 56-year-old woman from Carleton Place was then struck by a passing vehicle after leaving her car.
All three of them woke up Monday morning ready to face the week. None of the three will get the chance to enjoy this weekend with their family and friends.
All three crashes are still under investigation but there are many things we can do to decrease the chances of similar tragedies.
Move over for emergency or stalled vehicles. Put your cell phone down. Follow the speed limit, Keep a safe distance between vehicles. Reduce distracted driving wherever possible and don’t drink and drive.
Summertime is the time for sun and fun. So far, too many of us are dealing with tragedy and loss instead of sand and sunblock.
I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
