Beyond the Headlines – Celebrating children’s wonder and curiosity in a new hospital

Ever so often, a great news story comes along that lifts your spirits and stays with you.

Yesterday was that day.

It hit in just the right way, showing the beauty of curiosity and wonder in the eyes of children.

Every morning at the HUB Child & Family Centre in Picton, the children eagerly watch as their community comes together to construct the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.

When they arrive, construction workers greet them with high-fives, and and the sight of a towering crane.

One child simply called it, “My new hospital.”

To make it more exciting, the staff created a custom “I Spy” game to turn their observations into an adventure.

Staff from the HUB, along with representatives from Quinte Health, M. Sullivan & Son Ltd., and the PECMH Foundation, celebrated the children’s excitement on Wednesday.

Sixteen little ones received mini hard hats and safety vests, making them feel like part of the construction crew.

When they talked about the new hospital, they imagined a cozy kids’ room, showing they understand that hospitals are important places for healing.

Their messages to the construction workers were clear: “Good job,” “Thank you,” and “We love the new hospital.”

I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone involved for their remarkable support in recognizing these incredible youngsters and their genuine desire to make a positive impact on their new hospital.

The joy and enthusiasm exhibited by these children serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of celebrating their contributions, which are truly worthy of our admiration and recognition.
