One individual is facing multiple charges following the execution of a warrant by Animal Welfare Services and an incident with police officers earlier this week.
Shortly before 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, members of the Prince Edward OPP were requested to assist Animal Welfare Services at a residence in Picton.
AWS advised police there had been ongoing concerns regarding the treatment of a dog at the residence, including reports of physical abuse and failure to comply with previous orders.
During an interaction at the home, an individual allegedly assaulted a police officer and resisted arrest.
Following a brief struggle, officers took the individual into custody. Police and Animal Welfare Services then entered the residence, where the dog was located.
As a result of the investigation, Jordan Fenemore, 32, of Picton, has been charged with:
- Assaulting a Peace Officer (two counts)
- Resisting Peace Officer
- Obstructing Peace Officer
- Causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton.
The OPP reminds the public that interfering with police or lawful investigations is a criminal offence. Animal cruelty is a serious offence that can result in significant criminal charges, court-imposed penalties, and prohibitions on owning animals.
