The news I’m about to share doesn’t come from a headline but from the heart.

On Friday at noon, this dedicated broadcast journalist will sign off for the last time.

My journey as a journalist in Quinte has been both wild and rewarding, and I am so proud to have shared it with you.

When I began this adventure 16 years ago, I never imagined the incredible people I would meet and work with in our community, especially my partner Michael and the life-changing experiences that awaited me.

From skydiving out of a C-17 Globemaster with the Skyhawks and delivering toys to deserving children in the north at Christmas with CFB Trenton to hosting charity events and announcing dirt car racing at Brighton Speedway – there has never been a dull moment.

A career in Journalism has been an eye-opening experience, allowing me to get involved and advocate for several initiatives I am passionate about, including social justice, mental health, food insecurity, homelessness, and children’s safety.

I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of Michael and my family.

I would like to thank John and Martha Sherratt for the unforgettable opportunity of becoming a member of the Starboard family – this team is truly second to none.

To our team captain and news director, Paul Martin, thank you for your steadfast friendship, belief, guidance and support.

Finally, Quinte, thank you for welcoming me into your lives; more importantly thank you for trusting me to bring you the news – honestly and objectively as well as sharing your personal stories with respect and grace.

It has been an honour and a privilege.

I’m Nicole Kleinsteuber and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
