City of Belleville to receive Housing Accelerator Funding

By Brock Ormond Feb 3, 2025 | 8:30 PM

The City of Belleville has been successful in its latest application for housing funding.

Belleville Planning Advisory Committee Chair Paul Carr confirmed the news on Monday that the city will be receiving money from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation in its Round 2 cycle of Housing Accelerator funding.

No sum has been revealed yet, but Carr said to expect more information to come out later in the week.

After being denied funding in the first round of funding applications, city council agreed to put in another submission for the Housing Accelerator Fund for round 2 at a council meeting back in September 2024.

As part of its submission, council agreed to commit to a four units as-of-right policy in order to qualify for the funding.

The Federal government’s 2024 Budget announced a top-up of $400 Million over four years to the Housing Accelerator Fund which will help fast-track approximately 12,000 new housing units in the next three years.
