Belleville Police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the east-end of the city on Sunday, just after 9 p.m.
Officers were told that a man had a cat, and while he was away, another resident kicked the animal and threatened to kill it.
There was reportedly a confrontation between the cat owner and other resident, where it is alleged that the one had a large kitchen knife and stabbed the other. Several other people in the residence were able to intervene until police arrived on scene.
The victim sustained minor injuries. The suspect, 24-year-old Sukhdeep of Belleville was arrested without incident. They are charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to injure or kill an animal.
Sukhdeep was later released with a November court date.
