Young Guns claim SHBL title, first for Read team since 1980

For the first time in almost five decades, a team from Read stands alone atop the South Hastings Baseball League.
 The McGuinness Water Solutions Young Guns defeated the Tyendinaga Cardinals 9-4 in Game 5 to take home the Thornton Portt Memorial Championship Trophy winning the series 4-1.
Kyle Oliver went 5 innings picking up his second win of the series.  Eric White got the save going two innings and Ty McCambridge hit his first ever career SHBL homerun.
Oliver was named the 2026 Playoff MVP.
The last time a team from Read won was August 30, 1980 when Read Ellis Construction took home the SHBL Championship (see below for Intelligencer story clipping)
