Let’s all take a moment to thank some amazing people who are helping to bring thousands of farm families together again today in Belleville’s Thurlow ward.
This year’s edition of the Hastings County Farm Show and Plowing Match wraps up today at the Denyes family farm, Denhaven Farms in Thurlow.
Many thanks to former Councillor Jackie Denyes and her incredible family for providing this amazing location for the event, and for Brian Dracup, President of the Committee, and the volunteers who are making it happen.
I have been to multiple editions of the Farm Show and Plowing Match over the years, though they have yet to lure me onto a tractor for the media challenge, and I always marvel at how amazing it is.
A huge area is filled with displays, vendors, community members and workers who are passionate about farming, agriculture, technology and the future of our food security system.
As someone who grew up in a rural area, but not on a farm, it’s a valuable snapshot of the amazing people who are up before the sun to feed a nation and also form the backbone of one of our most important economic sectors.
So, thanks again to all the volunteers, and the Denyes family (of course) for making this year’s event possible. If you get the chance, head out today and take it all in, and maybe look into becoming a volunteer yourself.
The event has grown in a big way over the decades, and like our farmers and agriculture workers, we can never give them enough credit or support.
I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
