Two people were taken to the hospital following a fire in a small apartment building early Tuesday evening.
Belleville responded to a structure fire in the 100 block of Jane street in the West Hill area shortly before 7 pm.
Thick black smoke was found coming from a large building divided into 3 apartments.
Firefighters made quick entry and found two victims trapped in the smoke. The victims were removed by firefighters and taken to hospital by Hastings Quinte Paramedics. There is no update on their condition.
Belleville police had Coleman and Jane st area blocked off and people were being asked to avoid the area.
A fire investigator is on scene.
There is no word yet on damage.
