Beyond the Headlines – Belleville Senators fire Head Coach

By Paul Martin Dec 19, 2025 | 9:55 AM

It’s never easy to go through major transitions, but it’s especially true as the holidays approach.

The Belleville Senators relieved head coach David Bell of his duties back on Wednesday. Assistant coach Andrew Campbell has been elevated to the role of interim head coach of the hockey club.

In parts of four seasons with the Belleville Senators, Bell compiled a 97-78-15-11 record after taking over the club as the interim head coach in a similar move on February 3, 2023. Bell was then officially named the full-time head coach on May 2, 2023.

Ottawa Senators officials were gracious, thanking David for his time and commitment in Belleville and the Bay of Quinte and saying they wish him well in his next opportunity.

The reason for the change is no surprise, as the Belleville Senators currently sit in fifth place in the AHL’s North Division, with a record of 11-14-3, but the timing is still a bit rough.

I have had to let people go only days before a major holiday, and it’s not enjoyable.

There is also a big attachment for people in sports to the communities they bleed for, and moving on can be quite difficult.

So let me echo those thanks for now former coach Bell. They can take the Bell out of Belleville but they can’t erase the many good memories you gave us and those under your charge at the CAA arena.

I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
