Prince Edward County saw history made at the NHL level on Saturday night.
County-born goaltender Jett Alexander (from Bloomfield) made his debut appearance as an emergency backup goaltender with the Toronto Maple Leafs against their historical rivals, the Montreal Canadiens.
He came into the game with about a minute left in the third period, bringing the Leafs home to a 7-1 victory, becoming the first player from PEC to play at least one game in the NHL.
The 23-year old netminder is currently a University of Toronto Varsity Blue and signed an amateur tryout offer earlier in the day.
Alexander was a product of the Prince Edward County Minor Hockey Association, before moving to Toronto to play with the Don Mills Flyers and North York AAA Rangers of the Greater Toronto Hockey League in his teen years.
He spent time in junior hockey with the OJHL’s North York Rangers and Georgetown Raiders and also with the BCHL’s Prince George Spruce Kings.
Alexander had previously backed up with the Colorado Avalanche when they visited Scotiabank Arena in 2021, but never saw action.
