A Belleville jury has rendered a verdict and a sentencing date has been set in a 2019 murder case.
Thursday afternoon at the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse, the jury found Frederick Gordon Howes guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of Nicolas Wilson following a two-week trial.
The knife attack on Wilson on Feb. 20, 2019 happened outside the mental health transitional home in which they lived.
Howes’ mental state was assessed throughout the trial and in previous court appearances.
Though he pleaded not guilty, Howes admitted to the physical act of killing Wilson. Defence Counsel Michael Rodé, said Howes, who has schizoaffective disorder, was in a ‘deluded’ state at the time of the attack.
Friday morning, Justice Patrick Hurley, along with Rodé and Crown Attorney Adam Zegouras, came to an agreement on October 26, 2027 for a sentencing date at 9:30 a.m. at the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse.
