The Belleville Spirits Girls Basketball organization is adding another medal to its collection.
The Spirits U16 Barbeau squad finished with a silver medal at Ontario Cup in Welland this weekend, making them one of the top 10 teams in the province.
The team entered the tournament as the #1 overall seed.
Led by their stifling defense, excellent free-throw shooting, and tournament-leading performances in both points per game and points allowed during pool play, the Spirits advanced to the gold medal game against a strong G-Elite League opponent, the Peterborough Power.
After a competitive first half that saw the Spirits trailing by 10 heading into the third quarter, the Spirits came up short against a talented and deep Peterborough squad.
The silver medal finish capped off an incredible Ontario Cup weekend for a group that consistently competed with toughness, discipline, and confidence against some of the strongest competition in the province.
