As we start another school year today, let us take time to thank everyone who makes it possible for our future to take root in the minds of the young.
Countless people make this journey possible, and whether it’s beginning for the first time today or resuming after a summer of fun and adventure, it’s worth recognizing the people who help make our collective day-to-day routine productive, educational, healthy and safe.
As I was speaking to CEO and Director of Education for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board Katherine MacIver yesterday, I was marveling at how many moving pieces make up the jigsaw puzzle that is our local education system.
From the Board level to the dozens of schools across the region, everyone has a role to play.
Thanks in advance for a wonderful year to everyone at the Board and Administrative level, the Support Workers, Principals and Vice-Principals, Teachers and EA’s, Techs, Engineers and Maintenance. Every school is a bright and vibrant ecosystem and it doesn’t work without you!
To the Bus Drivers and the Crossing Guards, thanks for making sure our future is in the best possible hands and for getting them safely to and from school each day. We see you and we greatly value your contributions.
Thanks to the Police Officers who will make sure that people respect the areas where our children are walking and riding the bus and that drivers have their eyes and ears open and their phones out of reach.
Thanks also to the parents and community members who contribute to our schools in countless ways from assemblies and fundraisers to after-school programs and attending special meetings.
It takes a village to raise a child. Another year-long journey of magic and discovery begins under many watchful eyes today, for which we again say
“thank you”.
