Belleville man receives suspended sentence, probation in 2025 animal cruelty case

A Belleville man has received a suspended sentence with 12 months probation in connection with a case of animal abuse from last summer.

Samuel Earle was sentenced on Wednesday by Justice Joseph Dart at the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse.

Earle’s Defence Counsel submitted that a conditional discharge should be granted but Justice Dart declined that request, noting that it would be contrary to the public interest to grant him a discharge.

He also received a stand-alone animal prohibition order for 3 years.

Belleville Police had originally charged Earle with cruelty to animals causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury in July 2025 after it was discovered that he had beaten and choked a dog.
