UPDATE at 11 am – The Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Highway 401.
On July 8, 2026, shortly after 7:00 p.m., Frontenac OPP officers responded to a collision westbound on Highway 401 near Division Street. Initial investigation indicates that a vehicle struck the concrete centre median. The driver exited the vehicle and was subsequently struck by a passing vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.
The deceased has been identified as a 56-year-old female from Carleton Place.
Highway 401 westbound was closed for several hours while members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team assisted with the investigation.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision, to contact the Frontenac OPP at 1-888-310-1122. ORIGINAL STORY – The westbound 401 has reopened after being closed for several hours overnight following a fatal crash near Kingston.
The westbound lanes were closed at Montreal Street following a collision on Wednesday night around 8 pm.
Frontenac OPP confirmed that one person died in the crash.
They reopened the westbound lanes at Montreal Street shortly before 5 am on Thursday.
No other details have been released.
