Northumberland OPP charged a driver from the GTA with stunt driving after an incident on the 401 near Brighton on Wednesday night.
On July 8, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m., an officer conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Brighton stopped a vehicle after it was observed travelling at 156 km/h.
As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old male driver from Mississauga was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
The driver was issued a 30-day driver’s license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
Under Ontario’s stunt driving legislation, a driver can be charged when operating a vehicle:
- 40 km/h or more over the speed limit where the posted speed limit is less than 80 km/h;
- 50 km/h or more over the speed limit where the posted speed limit is 80 km/h or higher; or
- At a speed of 150 km/h or greater, regardless of the posted speed limit.
