A fast start buoyed the Trenton Golden Hawks to a ninth straight victory on Tuesday night.
Four first period goals helped keep the Hawks jets hot on their quest for a second straight Buckland Cup title in an 8-1 slugging of the Markham Royals.
The Hawks were led by a Daylen Moses natural hat trick and a five-point night overall.
He assisted on the first two Trenton markers, Lucas Digiantommaso getting a tip on a Candon O’Neill shot 2:17 into the night and helping Jamie Darlison bury his 25th of the year.
Josh Penny and Isaiah Shantz added goals before the end of the first to chase Markham starter Noah Caballero.
Moses then went on his goal-scoring tear, beating backup goalie Crosby Dacosta shorthanded halfway through the second, then scoring even strength to up Trenton’s lead to 6-0.
The 20-year-old forward completed the hat trick 3:47 into the third, sliding in a rebound for his eighth as a Hawk.
Penny added his second of the night before Philip Govedaris broke the shutout of Colton Drillen-Roach late in the period.
Penny finished with three points overall, Digaintommaso notched three assists to go along with his early goal, Candon O’Neill contributed four assists and Drillen-Roach denied 24 Markham opportunities in the win.
Trenton is home to the Caledon Admirals at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
