UPDATE: Wildfire in Marmora and Lake ‘tentatively contained’

By Nicole Kleinsteuber Aug 11, 2025 | 5:10 PM

A fire south of Coe Hill in Marmora and Lake is reported as tentatively contained late this afternoon.

The blaze, which started on Saturday, is holding at almost  13 hectares.

Three crews from the ministry of Natural Resources, along with air support, are continuing to work on scene.

Residents are still advised to avoid going out on lakes or flying drones, so as not to disrupt water bombers working in the area.

A Facebook post from the municipality of Marmora and Lake stated Mayor Jan O’Neill and members of council would like to extend their gratitude to the Fire Services of both Limerick and Wollaston Townships who have been working closely with Fire and Emergency Services to ensure the safety of personnel on the ground in the north of the municipality.

Fire Chief Greg Maxwell said there is an expectation of increased smoke in the area that will be visible.

Maxwell urged the public to be prepared with their standard 72-hour emergency kit.

He said to have a plan ready that includes your family, pets, and livestock.

Due to the hot and dry weather, burn bans remain in place across much of the region.
