A heartfelt cheque was presented to Three Oaks Foundation this afternoon along the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail behind Quinte Health.

The cheque was the result of a successful golf tournament held a few weeks ago in honour of the late Shannan Hickey. The event saw Three Oaks Foundation represenatives, as well as loved ones of Shannan Hickey.

The inagural Shannan Hickey Memorial Gold Tournament, held on Saturday, August 23 at The N I N E Golf in Belleville brought together family, friends, and community members to honour the life of Shannan Hickey and raise funds in her memory.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of participants, sponsors, and donors, the tournament raised $14,381.22 in support of Three Oaks Foundation, the local women’s shelter serving women and children who have experienced intimate partner violence.

Shannan Hickey, a registered nurse at Quinte Health and graduate of Loyalist College and Brock University, was tragicially killed by her intimate partner in May 2024. Her loss continues to be deeply felt throughout the Quinte community and beyond.

The tournament was created by her family and loved ones to celebrate Shannan’s life, while bringing awareness to the issue of intimate partner violence.

The day featured a full round of golf, contests, raffles, and a barbeque, with strong support from local businesses and individuals. Title sponsor Jsquared Roofing, along with numerous community partners, made the event possible.

Proceeds will go directly to Three Oaks Foundation, whose services include safe shelter, outreach counselling for women and children, family court support, transitional housing, and public education.

The inagural event was a representation of Shannan’s legacy – one of love, compassion, and community.
