There is some very good news regarding the health of the officer who helped prevent a much-larger tragedy in the shooting at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville last month.
Belleville Police issued an update on Constable Jeff Smith Thursday morning.
Officials say he continues to make positive progress in his recovery after being critically wounded when he was shot multiple times defending the Sons of Jacob Synagogue on September 20th.
Smith has now been released from hospital and is recovering well at home.
They add Smith and his family remain incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support shown by the community and beyond over the past several weeks and that every well wish and message of encouragement has been sincerely appreciated.
