The Historic Murray Canal District has recognized three individuals whose leadership and dedication were instrumental in the efforts to replace the two bridges spanning the Murray Canal.
At a special presentation on Thursday at Boston Pizza in Trenton, the Historic Murray Canal District presented a plaque of appreciation to Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. Although they were unable to attend, also recognized were Deputy Mayor Jim Alyea, and Chad Buchner, Manager of Canal Operations for Parks Canada.
The plaques acknowledge their commitment, cooperation, and advocacy for major infrastructure projects to enhance safety, accessibility, and the long-term sustainability of the Murray Canal corridor.
The Murray Canal, a designated National Historic Site, remains an important link for recreational boating, tourism, and local transportation.
The bridge replacement projects reflect the successful collaboration between municipal leaders, Parks Canada, and community stakeholders.
