UPDATE – Person dies after being struck by train on east-end Belleville tracks

UPDATE for Thursday, August 7th – Our newsroom has been informed by officials with Belleville Police that the incident was now in the hands of the Coroner’s office.

Belleville Police will be making no further comment on the case. There was no indication about the identity of the person who was fatally struck by the train on Sunday.

ORIGINAL STORY – A person was struck on the rail tracks near the Bayview Mall in east end Belleville this past weekend.

The train, reportedly a Canadian Pacific Kansas City freight, hit someone near the tracks around 10 p.m. on Sunday.

A CPKC spokesperson confirmed that the involved train did strike a person near 27 Newberry St. and it moved from the area Monday morning.

There has been no confirmation on the person’s injuries or their severity.

Reports from the scene indicated that the road was closed for a brief period.

Members of the Belleville Police Service attended the scene for assistance.
