An individual has been charged in connection with numerous criminal incidents in the Carrying Place area, dating from 2021 to 2025.

The thefts, break-ins and mischief incidents began at a subdivision in 2021 and continued until recently, the OPP stated.

Damage and losses are estimated to be worth nearly $300,000.

Quinte West OPP had begun the initial investigation, with the East Region Community Street Crime Unit joining the probe in July of this year.

Their efforts led to search warrants being executed on Wednesday at a residence on Parkview Road in Carrying Place, as well as a vehicle and one person being arrested.

Officers recovered a large quantity of stolen items, including power tools and electronics worth more than $17,000.

As a result of the investigation, Mathew Gardiner, 31, of Carrying Place, has been charged with:

  • Break and enter to commit an indictable offence – four counts
  • Wearing a disguise to commit an offence – four counts
  • Theft over $5000 – six counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Mischief over $5000
  • Mischief under $5000 – five counts
  • Failing to comply with a probation order – eight counts

He has a bail hearing Thursday in Belleville.
