The local unemployment rate is following the national mark a slight bit upward.
October’s labour market report from Statistics Canada indicated an uptick to 6.7-per cent from 6.5-per cent in September.
This also includes a loss of about 4,700 jobs.
StatsCan’s latest labour force survey says unemployment rate for the Belleville-Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area, which includes Belleville, Quinte West, Deseronto-Tyendinaga and Stirling-Rawdon, was 6.7 per cent last month, up from 6.4 in September.
Statistics Canada says private sector employment fell by 53,000 positions in October, marking the first decline in the segment since February, adding the wholesale and retail trade sector led job losses last month, but gains in construction and education offset some of it.
The provincial rate was up a sliver as well at 7.3-per cent
