The Prince Edward County OPP is advising the public of increased enforcement during the annual “Skip Weekend” at Sandbanks Provincial Park from May 28 to May 31.
This event traditionally attracts a large number of high school students, and officers will have a strong presence throughout the weekend to ensure public safety.
Officers will be strictly enforcing:
- Underage drinking offences under the Liquor Licence and Control Act
- Open liquor and public intoxication violations
- Impaired driving (alcohol and drug-related)
- Graduated Licensing System (G1/G2) conditions, including the zero alcohol requirement for G2 drivers
Charges, roadside suspensions, and vehicle impoundments may result from violations.
Police are reminding everyone attending to make safe and responsible choices:
- Do not drink and drive – plan a sober ride home
- Know your limits and look out for your friends
- Stay safe near the water – alcohol and swimming can be a dangerous combination
- Follow park rules and respect other visitors
The OPP is working in partnership with park staff and emergency services to ensure a safe weekend for all.
