UPDATE: Freezing rain warning has been lifted

UPDATE FRIDAY MORNING AT 5 AM – The freezing rain warning has been lifted for the area with no significant buildup overnight.

UPDATE: Thursday afternoon.

A freezing rain warning is now in effect from Environment Canada with slick weather possibly hitting the area Thursday night and early Friday morning.

The freezing rain is slated to start this evening, before it tapers off to patchy freezing drizzle overnight or early tomorrow morning.

Beware of potentially slippery conditions on roads and walkways.

Ice accretion or build-up is estimated to get up to 2 millimetres.

It could be an icy end to the day on Thursday in Quinte.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement to advise of freezing rain that may hit the area Thursday night and early Friday morning.

Early estimates are that it may begin in the 10 o’clock hour.

We will keep you updated as the day continues.

ADVISORY FROM ENVIRONMENT CANADA

What: Freezing rain leading to locally icy and slippery conditions. Ice accretion or build-up up to 2 millimetres.

When: Beginning this evening and ending overnight or early Friday morning.

Additional information: Areas near Lake Ontario will be on the northern edge of a weather system tonight. A few hours of freezing rain may occur, although it is possible that the majority of the precipitation will remain just south of the region. The area is being monitored for potential freezing rain warnings. Roads and walkways may become icy and slippery. Icy surfaces could be difficult to detect. There is risk of injury due to slips and falls.
