Local OPP detachments continue to work with its policing and regulatory partners to promote safety on Ontario roads through targeted commercial motor vehicle enforcement initiatives.
Friday, members of the OPP East Region Highway Safety Division partnered with the Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Unit, Quinte West OPP, Central Hastings OPP, Kingston Police Service, and Belleville Police Service to conduct commercial motor vehicle inspections and enforcement activities in Centre Hastings and the City of Belleville.
During the initiative, officers and inspectors focused on commercial vehicle safety, regulatory compliance, and driver-related violations.
The enforcement effort resulted in the following:
37 CVSA inspections conducted
10 vehicles placed out of service (27% of vehicles inspected)
32 charges laid for various offences, including:
Annual inspection violations
Hours of service violations
Registration offences
Daily inspection and vehicle maintenance violations
Improper brake defects
Cargo securement violations
Five licence plates removed due to major safety defects
Police say commercial vehicle inspections play a critical role in identifying unsafe vehicles and ensuring operators comply with provincial and federal safety standards. Mechanical defects, improper maintenance, and regulatory violations can significantly increase the risk of collisions and jeopardize the safety of all road users.
