Belleville Police arrested a person reportedly involved with a stolen credit card and an impaired driver following a collision, among other actions over this past weekend.
Credit Card Theft/Warrants
On September 14Belleville Police investigated a report of a stolen credit card that had subsequently been used to make fraudulent purchases. As a result of the investigation, police identified a suspect and obtained arrest warrants for the following offences:
· Theft of a credit card
· Use of a credit card
· Break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence
· Fail to comply with a release order
Saturday around 8:30 p.m. Belleville Police observed the suspect in the area of Sidney Street.
Michael Mercer, a 45-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address, was arrested on the strength of the outstanding warrants and held for a bail hearing.
Impaired Driver/Collision
A teen driver faces impaired charges following a collision late Saturday night.
Not long before midnight, Belleville Police responded to a single-vehicle collision in the city’s west end.
Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle flipped onto its side.
The driver and occupants had exited the vehicle prior to police arrival. While speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment.
As a result of the investigation, Dean McKenna, an 18-year-old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg.
He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in November.
No serious injuries were reported.
Threats
An arrest was made in a threats report Saturday.
Belleville Police responded to a call for service regarding threats.
It was reported that a male, known to the female complainant, attended her location and made threats toward her.
As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old Belleville man was located, arrested and charged with uttering threats.
He was released on an undertaking with a court date in January.
Warrants
Sunday around 6:45 a.m. Belleville Police responded to a call for service at a business on Bridge Street West regarding an unwanted person.
Upon arrival, officers located the male and identified him. Investigation revealed that he was wanted on several outstanding Belleville Police Service arrest warrants.
As a result, Kevin Symons, a 52-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address, was arrested on the strength of the outstanding arrest warrants and held for a bail hearing.
Intimate Partner Violence
Before 8 p.m. Sunday, Belleville Police responded to a residence in the city’s east end regarding a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, it was reported that a verbal altercation between a male and female had escalated, during which the male choked the female.
A 21-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:
· Assault causing bodily harm by choking
· Fail to comply with probation order
He was held for a bail hearing.
