Ahead of what is sure to be another spirited discussion on the topic of AI data centres on Wednesday night, the public is invited to an open house to check out a proposed new space in the Glen Miller area Tuesday evening.
All Season Fencing Ltd., the business that now operates out of the former Sonoco Plant, will hold the open house from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on-site at 920 Trenton Frankford Road.
The public is invited to tour the site and hear about the proposed project, which plans to turn an eight-megawatt outdoor centre into an 18-megwatt facility on part of a 100-acre site in that area, which would also be used as a vertical farming operation.
This comes ahead of a busy council agenda on Wednesday which will see no fewer than nine deputations on data centres from members of the public.
A notice of motion from Coun. Egerton Boyce is also on the agenda that would propose the municipality place a temporary ban for up to one year on approving or building any new data centres or AI facilities, while staff work with the province on regulations controlling these facilities.
City staff is still reviewing the project proposal.
Council meets at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The full agenda can be read at this link.
