The local unemployment rate has appeared to have almost aligned with the national numbers for September.
Statistics Canada released the results of its labour force survey for last month, which reports the unemployment rate for the Belleville-Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area was 6.4-per cent last month, up from 5.4 in August.
The local CMA includes Belleville, Quinte West, Deseronto-Tyendinaga and Stirling-Rawdon.
That nearly matches the national rate of 6.5-per cent, up slightly from the 6.4-per cent of August.
Stats Can reports the economy lost 68,000 positions last month, following the loss of 42,000 jobs in August.
September now marks the steepest single month of job losses in Canada since February.
The September jobs figures mark the Bank of Canada’s last look at the labour market before its next interest rate decision set for October 28.
