A Belleville man faces a glut of charges following a police chase and search that started in Trenton and ended in the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory area late last week.
Friday at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance at a business located on Dundas Street West in Trenton.
A male reportedly fled on foot from what was later revealed to be a stolen vehicle when police arrived, then subsequently stole another vehicle from a nearby residence.
The stolen vehicle was later located in the area of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
Officers from the OPP, Tyendinaga Police Service, and Belleville Police Service coordinated efforts to intercept the vehicle.
The male suspect fled from the vehicle on foot and entered a wooded area before being found in the search which included support from the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team.
A 43-year-old male from Belleville has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault
- Forceable confinement
- Flight from peace officer
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Operation while prohibited
- Fail to comply – three counts
- Break and enter
- Assault with a weapon
- Theft under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of a Schedule I substance – methamphetamine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance – heroin
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition – five counts
