The Belleville Chamber of Commerce is proud to celebrate the official launch of the Quinte Cricket Club, a community non-profit organization bringing professional-level cricket to the Quinte Region.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on June 5, 2026, at 11 a.m. and attended by local dignitaries, community leaders, and supporters.
The cricket pitch was funded and installed between the two most easterly soccer fields at Thurlow Park in 2025, as part of a collaborative effort between the Quinte Cricket Club and the City of Belleville.
The ribbon cutting marks the launch of an exciting weekend ahead: the 2nd Annual Quinte Cricket Cup, taking place June 6–7 at the Harmony Road Cricket Ground. The tournament will feature top teams from across Ontario and is proudly backed by the City of Belleville, the Belleville Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor, and the local MPP.
“We’ve always wanted to bring cricket to a bigger stage in the Quinte Region,” said Guneet, Felix, and Akshay, co-founders of the Quinte Cricket Club. “Thanks to the amazing local support we receive, we want to grow the sport and introduce this beautiful game to Belleville. This club is our way of giving back to the community that has given us so much.”
The three founders first came to Belleville as international students in 2014 and have called the city home ever since. Having played cricket since childhood and organized tournaments internationally, they launched the Quinte Cricket Club in 2025 to give the sport a permanent home in the region.
The response from the local community was so overwhelming they knew they had to return in 2026 on an even larger scale.
As the very first cricket club to host major tournaments in Belleville, the Quinte Cricket Club’s mission goes beyond the game itself. It aims to establish cricket as a mainstream sport in the Bay of Quinte Region, celebrating the diversity and vibrancy of the local community. This year’s tournament will also be making a charitable donation with a portion of proceeds to the BGH Foundation.
The founders extend their deepest gratitude to the sponsors and community partners who made this possible, including: Benton Fry Ford, Simplicity Auto Collision, Satvinder Real Estate, the Belleville General Hospital Foundation, the Belleville Senators, Fades by Jatin, Boston Pizza, Lala Masala, Emerald Cleaners, and the Belleville Chamber of Commerce.
