The Northumberland OPP is investigating a fatal collision on Highway 401 and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Police updated the public late Monday afternoon to say an individual has now been pronounced deceased in hospital as a result of the weekend crash.
On Saturday, May 30, at approximately 11 a.m., emergency crews responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 eastbound near the service centre in Port Hope.
It is believed that one of the involved vehicles was parked on the shoulder when the driver exited the vehicle. During the incident, the parked vehicle was struck by another vehicle, and the motorist who had exited was also struck.
The individual was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, where they were later pronounced deceased.
There were no other serious injuries to those involved.
Highway 401 eastbound was closed at Newtonville for the investigation, with assistance from the OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) team. All lanes reopened at around 3:30 p.m. on May 31, 2026.
