The same week his former protege re-upped for three more years in the Friendly City, an ex-Belleville Senators head coach has landed on his feet in Western Canada.
David Bell was recently hired by the WHL’s Regina Pats to be their next bench boss.
The Wiarton, Ont. native served as an assistant coach from 2019-23 with the B-Sens before being promoted to head coach in 2023, a position he held through December 2025.
Bell compiled a 97-78-15-11 record over 201 regular season games and won a playoff round in 2024 over the Toronto Marlies.
GOLDEN HAWKS OWNER JOINS NHL LEGEND IN BUYING USHL TEAM
Trenton Golden Hawks owner Shawn Hicks is taking a big step in adding another junior hockey franchise to his portfolio.
The Quinte West resident has teamed up with Hockey Hall of Famer and Colorado Avalanche GM Joe Sakic to launch a United States Hockey League franchise in San Diego, California.
The USHL is the Tier 1 Junior Hockey League in the United States.
San Diego’s franchise is set to begin play in the 2027-28 season along with five other western expansion franchises, three others in California and two in Arizona.
FRANKFORD FLYERS GO PERFECT IN OSHAWA
Last weekend was a huge thrill for a U13 fastball team from Quinte West.
On Father’s Day, the Frankford Flyers clinched gold at the Double B’s tournament in Oshawa, defeating the hosts 11-1 in the final game.
The Flyers went a perfect 5-0 on the tournament, beating Oshawa twice, and Bracebridge, Caledonia and Cambridge once each.

The Read McGuiness Water Solutions Young Guns put the hammer down on the Melrose Farrell Excavating Shamrocks with a 14-0 blitzing.
That win came in the 6th annual Cole Macfarlane Memorial Game.
Eric White was dominant on the mound, tossing a complete game one-hitter with seven strikeouts.
He also contributed to his own cause at the plate with three hits.
TUESDAY, JUNE 23
The Young Guns kept their winning ways going on Tuesday, defeating the Tyendinaga Cardinals 8-6.
Ty McCambridge notched the win on the hill.
Also, as part of a doubleheader, the Parkhurst Tripps Pirates levelled the Leighton Electric Mudhens 18-1.
Brett Hayes went four innings with three strikeouts for the win.
Sam Clements registered three hits and four RBIs in the Pirates second win of the season.

Uens Pole Line beat the Mudhens 11-2.
It was the defending SHBL champions’ sixth win of the season to keep them in top spot in the seven-team circuit.
