The OPP, alongside family members, community leaders and partners, gathered on Thursday for a bridge dedication ceremony in Madoc.
The ceremony was in honour of Constable Charles W. St. Charles, who lost his life while serving in the line of duty nearly 100 years ago.
Constable St. Charles, aged 75, was tragically shot while executing a tax distress warrant and died on December 22, 1926.
St. Charles served as a police officer in Madoc Township for 25 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.
Memorial signs at the bridge located at Highway 62 and Kellers Bridge Road in Madoc Township will serve as a permanent tribute to honour his life, service and sacrifice.
