Belleville Police have issued a notice of condolence on social media as they join the OPP in mourning the death of one of their officers who was killed in the line of duty on Tuesday afternoon in
northern Ontario.
29-year-old Constable Tarun Bali was struck by a motor vehicle and later died after he was part of an OPP investigation near the town of Hearst at 12:30 pm.
An 18-year-old male is now in custody on charges of first-degree murder, flight from police and dangerous driving.
Bali was on a deployment with the James Bay Detachment at the time of his death. He had been with the OPP for two and a half years and most recently was assigned to the Dufferin Detachment.
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique posted a message online saying that the officer’s courage and commitment to serving others would never be forgotten.
