The local public school board is working toward a balanced budget for next school year.
The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board of Trustees had a look at the almost $265 million 2026-27 draft budget earlier this week
A report from Bryce Wilson, Superintendent of Business Services and Senior Manager of Finance Jason Gunning outlined there is a balanced budget for compliance of $0 for surplus/deficit.
Almost $15 million is being budgeted for construction and building renewal projects and capital equipment purchases planned for 2026-2027, with several large projects on the way to completion.
On the other side, officials say projected enrolment is down about 242 students, and the board is facing a projected $1.4-million transportation deficit, between what the province has allocated and projected costs.
