State of City Address in Belleville includes big box retail tease

Wednesday’s State of the City address in Belleville included a very familiar tease about a big project at the northwest end of the city.

Mayor Neil Ellis addressed a packed room at the Ramada as part of the yearly breakfast event hosted by the Belleville Chamber of Commerce.

While speaking highly of the city and its future, Ellis teased a number of new developments on the horizon, including a large commercial/retail development (over 150,000 square feet) on Bell Blvd.

Ellis confirmed to our newsroom last night that a site plan has been submitted to the city, and a major announcement is expected soon after they go through the planning stages.

While he would not formally confirm that the location would be COSTCO (as has been rumoured several times over the years), he said he was “hopeful” that a full announcement would be made in the next few weeks.

The full breakdown on the chamber meeting can be found here.
