Impaired, drug possession charges laid following traffic stop in Quinte West

A driver has been charged with impaired driving and drug possession following a traffic stop in Quinte West.

On Friday, May 15 at approximately 11:15 p.m., Quinte West OPP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on County Road 40, Trenton.

During the investigation, an individual was arrested for being impaired.

As a result of the investigation, charges were laid under the Criminal Code, the Liquor Licence and Control Act, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Tobacco Tax Act and the Highway Traffic Act.

Kenneth Amyotte, 40, from Belle Ewart, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes
  • Litter highway

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on June 25.
