A filmmaking extravaganza in downtown Belleville will be shutting down after nearly a decade-and-a-half.
A post from Downtown DocFest announced the annual film festival, which was moving from its usual springtime period to November, will not be happening and will be discontinued.
The Festival Board reportedly made the difficult decision to permanently discontinue the festival due to ongoing funding challenges.
Downtown DocFest officials thanked the public and their regular attendees for their unwavering support the past 14 years.
“Through your attendance, engagement, and encouragement, you helped us bring countless stories and important causes to light. Belleville Downtown DocFest simply would not have existed without you.
Officials also extend heartfelt gratitude to the funders, sponsors, filmmakers, community partners, and volunteers whose support, passion, creativity, and generosity helped sustain the festival over the years.
Belleville Downtown DocFest is a community-oriented documentary film festival featuring outstanding films from around the world and at home in Canada and the Quinte region.
