Fundraising campaign launched to meet full cost of accessible lift at Bancroft Village Playhouse

Tweed & Company Theatre announces the launch of a fundraising campaign for an accessible lift addition at the Bancroft Village Playhouse.

This is a project that has been a high priority since assuming operations of the Playhouse in 2022 due to the venue’s physical barriers that make entry difficult for wheelchair users and those with
limited mobility.

The venture will contribute to the full accessibility of this beloved venue and create an inclusive experience for all theatre-goers.

The addition includes a two-story lobby accessible from both the outside via a sloped ramp, and from the venue’s main floor lobby.

The lift will transfer patrons directly from the ground floor to the auditorium level.

Construction is set to begin in September of 2026 with planned completion by the end of December of 2026.

That leaves March to August for this local charitable organization to reach the full amount needed to build the lift.

With an overall goal of $350,000, the project has already received $125,000 from federal funding and is expected to receive $100,000 more between provincial and municipal grants and foundation support.

To raise the final 30 percent needed for the project, Tweed & Company are launching a private sector Capital Campaign, asking for $100,000 from local patrons of the arts. All donors to this project of $100 or more will receive the recognition such generosity deserves by having their names memorialized forever in the BVP lobby.

Donors giving $100 – $4,999 will have their name engraved on a group plaque.

For contributions of $1,000, donors will have their name or the name of someone they wish to honour etched on a piece of stained glass by a local glasswork artist which will hang in a larger stained glass art installation in the new addition.

Gifts of $5,000 or more will be honoured with an individual plaque on display in the venue’s foyer. Approximately $10,000 in donations have already been raised prior to the formal start of the campaign.
