Beyond the Headlines – fundraising drive for accessibility at Bancroft Village Playhouse

By Paul Martin Mar 4, 2026 | 9:55 AM

I would like to take a moment this morning to share my thanks and encourage people to support the caring people at Tweed & Company Theatre, who are doing their best to make the arts more accessible in Bancroft.

They have just launched a $100,000 fundraising campaign to help fund an accessible lift addition at the Bancroft Village Playhouse.

Tweed & Company Theatre assumed operations of the Playhouse in 2022, but physical barriers that make entry difficult for people who use wheelchairs and others with limited mobility.

I have always been impressed with the many offerings presented by the team at Tweed & Company Theatre, and this is just another example of how they are trying to make it available to as many people as possible.

The addition includes a two-story lobby accessible from both the outside via a sloped ramp, and from the venue’s main floor lobby, with a lift to transfer patrons directly from the ground floor to the auditorium level.

At a time when we are faced by countless challenges both domestic and international, it is heartwarming to see these kinds of projects not only breathe new life into local cultural institutions but enabling people of all physical ability to enjoy the unforgettable experience that only comes from a life theatre performance.

The campaign runs from now until the start of construction in September, with $125,000 in federal support already in place, but you still have time to join the drive to ensure that once they set the stage in Bancroft, everyone can enjoy the magic that follows.

I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
