I think we should all take a moment to fully appreciate the people who are literally building a better future for us here in Quinte.
The Quinte Home Builders’ Association (QHBA) recently handed out a dozen trophies at the 2025 ACE Awards (Awards for Construction Excellence) at the ACE Awards Gala on Friday, November 28 at the National Airforce Museum of Canada.
The event brought together leaders in residential construction to honour the outstanding achievements of QHBA Certified members who raise the bar for quality, professionalism, and industry leadership across the region.
We have so many amazing construction companies, contractors, tradespeople and support workers in the local building industry that I sometimes think we take the incredible work they do for granted.
We shouldn’t, because when people cut corners in the building industry, tragedy often follows.
Fourteen people have been arrested as authorities probe suspected corruption and negligence in Hong Kong’s construction industry after a deadly apartment block fire last week. The aftermath has been devastating. 151 people were killed, 30 others still missing and thousands homeless.
It is a grim reminder of the importance of how much we rely on the people honoured by the QHBA just last week.
As the Quinte Region continues to experience strong growth and a relative amount of prosperity, we can rest easy knowing that the places we call home have been built with quality, care and an abundance of caution by people who turn our dreams into a dependable and safe reality.
I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
