Beyond the Headlines – Jays playoff run memories

By Hailey MacDonald Nov 3, 2025 | 10:12 AM

What memories you take from something often determine how you face another day.

Jays fans were devastated as Canada’s team lost in game six and seven over the weekend, both in heartbreaking fashion.

It looked so many times like we had it in the bag, in one case coming a split-second off a raised and then hastily re-lowered foot away from winning it all.

That will leave a sour taste in many people’s mouths, but I hope we can remember and learn to treasure some of the moments that we shared along the way.

From the meteoric rise of Trey Yesavage, to the three-run shot from George Springer that sent to the Jays to the World Series over Seattle, to back-to-back jacks to start a game and stellar defensive plays and a pinch-hit home run for the ages, the post-season had many epic moments.

Mostly though, I will remember it dominating discussion in the office and while I was out and about, as it brought everyone together to stand behind our national team.

In my own household, we watched the games more and more (minus the final few of the 18 inning game), and our youngest son Alex even chanted along to O.K. Blue Jays, though he adorably says “Let’s….Play…Sports” instead of Let’s Play Ball.

These are the moments I shall wrap around myself like the hero jacket they all wore after the big moments, treasured moments of unforgettable moments that in time will outweigh the pain of a final score that didn’t reflect the effort involved.

I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
