Town of Greater Napanee to livestream news events

By Hailey MacDonald Sep 2, 2025 | 1:29 PM

The Town of Greater Napanee will seek to livestream all future media and special speaking events in the interest of transparency and making information available to the public.

The new initiative is part of the implementation strategy of the Town’s new Corporate Communications Strategy that was recently adopted by Town Council.

“Members of the public have been clear with the Town that their expectations are that public information is easily accessible and available, and we’re doing that,” said Mayor Terry Richardson. “We will continue to take steps to ensure citizens have an ability to understand and comment on the activities and issues involving their government.”

Regular council meetings, special council meetings, and committee of adjustment meetings have been livestreamed on Greater Napanee’s YouTube channel since the beginning of the pandemic. You can find all the streams of past meetings here: https://www.youtube.com/@townofgreaternapanee1994/streams.

The Town adopted its new Corporate Communications Strategy on July 8, 2025. The Strategy outlines several initiatives the Town will undertake, including:

Ensuring that how and where citizens can expect to receive updates from the Town is clear and consistent
Creating a series of e-newsletters that will deliver Town news and updates on the decisions of Council directly to citizens
Improving searchability of information on the Town’s website
Increasing efforts to tailor how information is delivered to citizens and their preferences (radio, web, hard copy, social media, etc.)
Increasing opportunities for citizens to be consulted on municipal issues

“Ensuring that the Town is both accessible to news media and that it provides opportunities for citizens to hear directly from their government is an expectation of citizens and of Town Council,” said Matthew Grant, Chief Administrative Officer. “Town staff will continue to explore and develop ways to deliver information and services to the public in the most open, transparent, and cost-effective manner.”

The Town will make every effort to livestream media and special speaking events with the exception of locations where technology will not permit livestreaming.
