Beyond the Headlines – United Way HPE launches fundraising campaign

By Hailey MacDonald Sep 12, 2025 | 1:27 PM

You have to shoot for the stars if you really want to make a difference and help as many people as possible.

The United Way Hastings and Prince Edward is doing just that.

They launched their fall fundraising campaign yesterday with an ambitious 2025 target of 2.4 million dollars.

They also announced a gradual increase in that amount to reach three million dollars in 2028.

Brandi Hodge, Executive Director of United Way HPE, said it best when she said “This is more than a goal — it’s a commitment to the future of our community.”

I well remember the early days of the campaign, when I used to attend launches with targets with only six digits in them. Back then, $600,000 was considered a nearly impossible goal.

With conviction, I can say the target has increased because the need in the community has grown even more.

Right now, the local United Way supports close to four dozen programs with 40 local agencies that assist untold thousands of local citizens with food, shelter, mental health, childcare, mentorship and more.

Almost as importantly, the campaign brings us together to encourage the best of the human spirit through giving, empathy, understanding and mutual support. With everything happening in the world today, we key lesson they spread is that we are stronger…always…together.

I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
