Beyond the Headlines – TMHF Gilligan’s Island Gala

By Hailey MacDonald Sep 16, 2025 | 12:16 PM

A TV classic will be used as the theme for an event that will help ensure quality healthcare in the future at Trenton Memorial Hospital.

Last week, The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation announced that Scotiabank has been named the Title Sponsor of their upcoming Gala, called Stranded in Style – An Evening on Gilligan’s Island.

It’s being held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Batawa Community Centre.

Money raised at the event will support the Emerge Stronger campaign to expand the ER, add vital equipment, and support the new medical information system at Trenton Memorial Hospital.

I have great appreciation and respect for everyone at TMH and can speak firsthand from many positive experiences over the years on the quality of people delivering everything from mending a dislocated finger, performing vital diagnostic tests and special dentistry for my son Alex.

I also feel the theme is very “on point” in more ways that one.

Like those who were trapped on Gilligan’s Island, many people working in the healthcare field often feel like they are virtually forgotten, forced to work in isolation and without proper support and recognition.

The need for more investments in healthcare is also as clear as the black and white images from the show’s first season.

Gilligan’s Island is a “blast from the past”, but I hope that turnout for the event is strong so we can ensure that thousands of local families get the care they need and not feel like they are lost in the system on their own “three hour tour”.

I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
