ALCDSB welcomes New Director of Education

By Paul Martin Feb 2, 2026 | 10:03 AM
The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) is pleased to welcome Carey Smith-Dewey as the board’s new Director of Education.
Carey starts her role today (Monday) as Director, bringing 28 years of experience in the ALCDSB as a teacher, vice-principal, principal, superintendent of education and now Director of Education.
“I am honoured to step into this leadership role and continue to support our Catholic learning communities,” said Smith-Dewey. “I will take this opportunity to lead with humility, gratitude, and a profound sense of purpose. I am driven by a mission to nurture a school system anchored in Gospel values, academic excellence, equity, and inclusion to ensure that every student is known, loved, and inspired to succeed.”
Please join the ALCDSB in welcoming Carey Smith-Dewey to her role as Director of Education (not that we have to welcome her to ALCDSB, she’s been here since kindergarten!).
